This 19th century stone building was once a station on the Welsh Highland Railway, and is now a quirky, year-round getaway for solo travellers or couples. In the heart of the mountains, it really is the perfect base for exploring Snowdonia.

Set all on one level, this cosy little property has an open-plan living space with two armchairs and a TV, a dining table and chairs, and a fully equipped kitchen area that includes a washing machine. Creating a home-from-home feel, inset shelving provides space for books, a music centre and displays of ornaments. Next door, the delightful timber-clad double bedroom has storage space and an en-suite shower room. Head outside for spectacular views down the valley from your private patio, where you’ll find seating, recliners and a BBQ, plus a bike store. You may also access a shared garden with mature planting, a small stream and yet more wonderful views.

The property is located at the foot of Snowdon, where the Snowdon Ranger footpath starts, and has a request stop for the Welsh Highland Railway just behind it. The closest village at Rhyd Ddu, 1.5 miles away, has a good pub serving food and a lovely seasonal cafe. This is also the start of the Lon Gwyrfai footpath/cycle route to Beddgelert (5 miles), a pretty village with a National Trust shop and plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs. From here you can take a scenic walk along the river and visit the famous Gelerts grave. The majestic Caernarfon Castle is 8 miles away. A visit makes a wonderful day out, which can also include a wander around the marina, arts centre and variety of shops and places to eat and drink within the historic walled town.

Another fantastic stay at the Snowdon Ranger Station. Cozy and quite. We also had amazing views of the summit of Snowdon all week. It was truly magical staying here in the winter and also having some snow as well as crystal clear skies during the day allowing us to still explore. Thanks again for an awesome visit

Highly recommended. Great location and views. The former station building (now just a request stop) has been sympathetically converted into a lovely cosy and comfortable cottage. A trip on the heritage train which runs from Porthmadog to Caernarfon is a must for the scenery, or just watch the trains go by. For walkers, the Snowdon Ranger Path sRead moretarts here and the Rhyd Ddu Path and station is just a couple of miles away. An enjoyable Xmas break for me, despite some atrocious weather. I would be happy to return. Hide

We loved the location of the cottage particularly because it was so near Snowdon. The cottage proved to be very well equipped and comfortable.. We found that it was very easy to get supplies of food from the nearby villages which were on hand. Being so close to the Mountains was very enjoyable and the beauty of Snowdonia was breath taking. A beatifully located cottage surrounded by magnificent views of the local landscape. Snowdon Ranger is centrally placed for visits to many of the attractions hereabouts, whether it be town or countryside.within this popular part of north Wales. For the energetically inclined it is the perfect starting point for climbing Snowdon, although up hill sRead moretarts virtually straight away. Some of the roads are quite narrow and care is needed when travelling. Hide

10th? visit to the Old Snowdon Ranger Station (Lost count!). Everything good. It is the perfect 'chill-out' cottage with sensational scenery and a lovely host next door. Trains, buses and the Snowdon Ranger footpath run almost from the door. A definite 11 out of 10!

The cottage was perfect as a base for exploring Snowdonia, away from the main tourist areas. The owner was very nice too. The cottage was well equipped and, comfortable. It had everything it needed and nothing that it didn't and, I found it very relaxing to have no mobile signal and, very little internet, which gave me more time to browse the exRead morecellent books and leaflets on the local area that are on the shelves and, get inspiration for things to do that I hadn't thought of or didn't even know about. Amazing views and, very peaceful. It was the perfect place to get away from it all and, I will definitely be going back. Hide

The cottage was immaculate and there was every type of equipment that you could possibly have needed. Kath Woods, the owner was extremely helpful and greeted us with home made sponge and tea and bade farewell with home made scones - most welcome! My only criticism was that we could not find an inventory of the equipment before we set off and conseqRead moreuently we took too much unnecessary luggage. For example, we did not know whether there was a freezer until we phoned Kath. The setting was perfect- ideal for climbing Snowdon- which we did and walking down to the lake. The benches and tables were ideal for afternoon tea. Overall -superb ! Hide
