Presteigne Cottages

With a population of 2,500 this was once the county town of Radnorshire. Although Llandrindod Wells had become the administrative centre by the end of the C19th, Presteigne remained the venue for the Assizes until 1971.

The Judge's Lodgings, decorated in mid-Victorian style, allow today's visitors to step back to the 1870s and explore the 'upstairs, downstairs' life of the Judges, servants and prisoners. Aided by an interior hardly touched by time and original furnishings discarded in attics, extensive research and restoration has re-awakened this Victorian gem.
