This peaceful Welsh hideaway is in a rural hamlet just north of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The traditional property sleeps four guests and makes a lovely couples’ retreat or base for a small family looking to switch off and relax. Enjoy countryside walks from your front door, or head further afield to explore the Cambrian Mountains (12 miles) or banks of the River Usk (3 miles). At the end of the day, dine alfresco in the garden, admiring the far-reaching views.

The stone cottage adjoins the owner’s house and is decorated in a traditional style, complementing the original beams, stonework, and quarry-tiled floors. After a day of exploring, return to your cosy abode to snuggle on the sofa in front of the wood burner in the lounge or gather around the table in the kitchen/diner for an evening of delicious food and great chat. Completing the ground floor is the family bathroom. An open staircase leads to the first floor, where you’ll find the two double bedrooms. Outside, you’ll have ample space to relax in the Welsh sunshine. Along with a seating area in front of the cottage, there’s also a large, shared lawn to the rear and an additional shared lawn area across the road. Please note, this area backs onto the river and children and dogs must always be supervised.

The Georgian market town of Brecon is 12 miles away. The town is a paradise for foodies, with a fantastic range of independent restaurants. After a delicious meal, take a stroll along the picturesque towpath of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal. Keen walkers can explore the remote landscape of the Fforest Fawr Geopark (12 miles), marvelling at the 470-million-year-old rock formations. Alternatively, enjoy a family day out at the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (13.5 miles).

A lovely cosy cottage with log burner in the middle of nowhere, sheer bliss. A community run pub almost next door that served good food was a bonus. We took our 3 German Shepherds and did lots of walking without having to drive too far. We arrived to some lovely homemade goodies and nice eggs from the free range hens that roamed the garden.

Thank you for our lovely stay. It was our first time in Wales and we enjoyed it very much for all the delicious things on arriving. Mainly because it was all homemade. It was super!!

Had a fantastic week in this lovely cottage. Janet and Hywell were very welcoming and helpful, lovely people. Ticked a few things off of our to do list, Pen y Fan, 4 waterfalls, Tenby. Wales is a beautiful country and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thank you

A comfortable clean and well equipped cottage in a delightful scenic and peaceful location. The Pentrebach village pub, The Shoemakers Arms, is half a minute away, and is excellent. Our two meals there were a highlight of our stay

1st time we used Original Cottages and was impressed by the choice of properties, description of facilities and nearby amenities. We wanted a comfortable, relaxing break and that's exactly what we got. Cottage owners greeted us warmly and left us some lovely home made jam and fresh eggs to enjoy.
