The walk around Cwm Idwal is a wonderful family walk with very little ascent and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.  Parking is available opposite the visitor centre and in the many parking areas along Llyn Ogwen, there are also public toilet facilities at the visitors centre.

The path up to Llyn Idwal is very well maintained with large slabs of stone laid on the ground making  the way very clear and dry for most of the walk. There are some patches where you meet a little boggy ground but not many and this may also depend on the season and weather.

Walking around Llyn Idwal you are treated to stunning views of Cwm Idwal’s rocky cliffs and waterfalls. You can sit on a boulder and enjoy a sandwich in what feels like the heart of the mountains.

This walk is very accessible and takes around 2 hours with a picnic stop. Further along the hills we met friendly Shetland ponies and if you fancy going a bit further than around the lake you can easily extend your walk higher into the Glyderau mountain range. We can’t wait to go back explore more of this stunning area!
