This beautiful couple’s bolthole is close to the beach at one of Carmarthen Bay’s loveliest villages. Contemporary interiors are complemented by a pleasant courtyard – and you can bring a canine plus-one to join in the holiday fun too.
Coastal cottage charm abounds at this cute cottage, less than 400 metres from the sands of Ferryside, a peaceful estuary village. As romantic retreats go, this semi-detached ticks all the boxes; you can snuggle up with a movie or music by the wood burner, prepare and enjoy dinner for two in the contemporary kitchen, relax in a bubble-filled bath and then retire to a first-floor bedroom that offers views of the estuary, sea and stunning Llansteffan Castle. Outside, a small, enclosed courtyard provides a quiet spot for your first morning cuppa or, perhaps, drinks as the sun goes down.
Ferryside is almost at the centre of the Carmarthen Bay coastline, close to where three of Carmarthenshire’s main rivers – the Taf, the Gwendraeth and the Towy – meet the sea. The mudflats and saltmarshes in the bay are an important site for thousands of overwintering waders, while other birds are seen in smaller numbers all year round – the coastal path is only 100 metres from your doorstep and, when you’ve walked up a thirst, the local pub is just across the road. Breathtaking Llansteffan Castle crowns the top of a well-defined headland on the opposite side of the estuary, an 16-mile drive away; closer to home, the hilltop village of Llansaint (1 mile) has a maze of narrow roads and a historic church. Around 9 miles north, the county town of Carmarthen has an indoor market plus shops and eateries to satisfy every appetite.
